The number one question I get about posing from my clients is “What should I do with me hands?” ⠀⁣

It’s so ubiquitous that all we can do is make a joke about it.

So many of us when we are in front of the camera and feeling awkward, our arms and hands become an extension of awkwardness and we forget what to do with them! It is as if suddenly they just grew out of our bodies and we haven’t learned yet how to live with them.
⠀⁣
Let’s talk about 9 things you can “do” with your hands in photos that looks natural and flattering to share with you.
⠀⁣
1. Hands to waist. This classic power pose adds definition to your arms and brings the eye to narrow part of your bpdy. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
2. Hands in pockets. Be sure to relax your wrists and fingers so it doesn’t look like you are gripping your pockets and let your elbows relax back.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
3. Drape your arm across your lap or the back of a chair and allow your hands, wrist & fingers to relax open.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
4. Bringing your hands into your hair (like you are tucking behind an ear or adjusting a ponytail) or if you have them to the arm of your sunglasses or to the brim of a hat. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
5. Fingers together and hands “steepled” is another power pose and perfect if you are a speaker, leader or expert in your field.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
6. Put something in your hands like a mug or phone or takeaway cup. Be sure to hold it in a way that you naturally would. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
7. Some people avoid crossing arms because they think it can look closed off but I think if your energy is open and the cross is relaxed if can read as open and approachable. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
8. Let your hand rest against your neck or chin. You are creating the illusion that you are resting your head onto your hand because actually doing so can close off the sternum and push the skin up in an unflattering way.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
9. Gently interlace your fingers and this can either be seated with your arms resting against your legs or standing with your elbows slightly bent. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Here is to you knowing how to ace any photoshoot! ⠀⁣
